closed Giulia Napoleone.

The show

Curated by Giuseppe Appella

One hundred and four works (paintings, sculptures, drawings, engravings, artist's books, dated 1956-2018) selected to highlight the birth and development of a precise formal language, interior landscapes, landscapes "of dots", as he defines them herself, of that research on semantic complexity that dominated the intellectual and artistic scene of the Sixties, in which the artist works with his very personal reading of reality mediated by poetry. "Poetry is like a landscape - writes Giulia Napoleone - all understanding of things happens through poetry, a verse corresponds to everything. My reading is a slow and tormented reading, a difficult process of assimilation".
A continuous and constant dialogue between poetry and visual art therefore characterizes his work, from the first reflections on the theme of the sign of the sixties, immersed in the sounding of the immense archive of tradition to draw from it what is necessary to renew himself by experimenting, the habit with color, above all blue ("versatile color"), which moves from the second half of the seventies, in which the absence of matter makes the light emerge from the background of the paper with delicate transparencies.

The title of the exhibition is linked, like the two previous ones, to the poster sheet Reality in balance written by Fausto Melotti on the occasion of the collective exhibition at the Galleria Il Segno in Rome in 1982 which exhibited, in addition to Napoleon himself, also Lorenzetti, Conte, Rodolfo Aricò and Giuseppe Uncini.
