Optical and Design is the second temporary exhibition of the Abitare il Museo exhibition which, in the months of May and June, brings to light a selection of works from the deposits of the civic museums.

In the 1960s, society encountered great changes: lifestyles, taste and aesthetics evolved rapidly following the wave of violent historical and cultural changes that followed one another over a handful of fertile seasons. Thus it happens that the newspaper finds itself investigating the laws of information technology and the mass media, and that the rules of perception restore this new widespread curiosity, while various conventions of art and of the artistic object are broken. The painting wants to come out of its support, it extrudes itself, it creates different planes, it becomes three-dimensional; on the other hand, Design is preparing to become an academic discipline, while a culture of beauty is spreading which also extends to furnishings.

In the same years, the city of Livorno conquered a unique and peculiar space in the public debate on the contemporary, the Modigliani Award , the Progressive Museum of Contemporary Art and the exhibition Project structure: design methodology were born.

The collection of works attributable to the Optical and Design fields, of which the present selection is an example, offers a sample of the complexity and richness of the civic heritage.

The exhibition will be open every day from 10:00 to 19:00 continuously until Sunday 28 May , always with free admission and accompanied by a calendar of collateral events. (the exhibition will be closed for the day of Santa Giulia on May 22)
