The Churchill War Rooms are part of the Imperial War Museums complex.
The Cabinet War Rooms, a historic ensemble of underground rooms that housed a British government command center during World War II, and the Churchill Museum, a biographical museum that explores the life of the prime minister. Englishman, Winston Churchill, from his solitary childhood to his military career and his marriage to his beloved wife, Clementine. The museum also houses letters that the two exchanged.
The War Rooms, located in the Whitehall and Westminster area, began to be built in 1938 and became fully operational a year later, in August 1939. They were a real headquarters for Churchill and remained so until the surrender of Japan in 1945.
Later, in the 80s, given the historical value that these rooms have, they were placed under the administration of the Imperial War Museum and were then opened to the public in 1984. In 2010 they were officially named with the title of Churchill War Rooms.
Inside are also set up temporary art exhibitions, focused on the war theme.
