The Design Museum of London is one of the most important museums in the world dedicated to all aspects of design and architecture located in the Holland Park district, in Kensington High Street.
The Design Museum occupies a total area of 10,000 square meters within which it houses spaces for permanent and temporary exhibitions, a room for special events, an educational center, accommodation for designers in residence, an auditorium with more than two hundred seats, a library and an archive. The museum's collection is very rich: it has over 3,000 pieces including furniture, communication tools, lighting equipment, appliances and electronics, typewriters, tableware, containers, graphics projects, vehicles. All objects made from the early twentieth century to the present day.
The permanent exhibition of the Design Museum, Designer Maker User includes about 1000 objects, divided into three main thematic sections: the Designer section investigates the design process of small and large objects, with particular reference to urban design and transport . The second section, Marker, is dedicated to manufacturing and tells the process with exemplary objects: the bentwood chairs produced by Thonet, the torch of the London 2012 Olympics, the Ford Model T and produced with 3D printers.
The last section, titled User, focuses on the relationship between products and people.
