Headstone Manor and Museum

Headstone Manor and Museum is the Harrow neighborhood museum.

It is located in London and was founded in 1986.

The museum is divided into four buildings, all close to each other: the Headstone Manor, The Great Barn, The Small Barn, The Granary.

Headstone Manor is the main building and forms what has been called one of the most interesting examples of house complexes in the entire country. The house was owned by the Archbishop of Canterbury and then passed to Henry VII who, in turn, donated it to his trusted man, Edward North. It remained in the hands of the latter and his descendants for several centuries.

The style of the building has undergone various changes but retains the original moat. The two barns, the larger (The Great Barn) and the smaller (The Small Barn) were recently restored and reopened in 2014 and 2017 respectively.

Both are evidence of how Manor played an important role in agricultural and peasant life of its time.

Il Granaio, on the other hand, which was originally a cattle feed shop, dates back to the eighteenth century.

It was opened to the public for the first time in 1992 and thanks to a substantial intervention by the Heritage Lottery Fund, it was restored and brought to new light in 2017.

Today the Headstone Manor and Museum in addition to its collection of objects, also hosts exhibitions and cultural events.
