Imperial War Museum London

The Imperial War Museum in London opened its doors to the public in 1920.

Originally located in the Crystal Palace on Sydenham Hill, in 1936 it moved to its present location, the old British psychiatric hospital of Bethlem. After the end of the Second World War the museum of the collection grew significantly and had to partially occupy other exhibition spaces, such as the HMS Belfast or the Churchill Museum, as well as various locations outside the city. In fact, the Imperial Museum now has five locations, three of which are in London. The collection brings together official documents, photographs, audiovisual materials and vehicles, weapons and aircraft.

The museum is divided into six floors and by visiting its rooms one actually becomes aware of the negative effects of the war on the population over the course of history.

Noteworthy is the underground floor, where the original pieces of the two world wars are found, as well as the simulations of war scenarios in the trenches.

Going up, you arrive at one of the most fascinating areas of the museum, for the presence of cannons and missiles. On the first floor there is a permanent exhibition on "secret" warfare (espionage). The second and third floors of the museum are dedicated to the Holocaust.

The Imperial War Museum is considered one of the best museums in the world dedicated to the war theme. In fact, it offers the possibility of coming into contact with the experiences lived by the military and civilians who suffered the harsh consequences, physical and psychological, of military actions.
