Alameda Castle

Alameda Castle

The place where the Alameda or Barajas Castle stands is a space where all the stages of the history of this territory are represented, located between Madrid and the Jarama Valley . Below it and in its surroundings are the remains of ancient settlements from the Bronze Age to the Roman era .

Between the medieval villages of Alameda and Barajas , the Mendoza family built a majestic castle in the 15th century. A century later, its new owners, the Zapata family, Counts of Barajas, transformed it into a Renaissance palace with a beautiful garden. Today the castle is preserved together with historical remains from other eras, such as the prehistoric village or the machine gun nest used in the Civil War.

This archaeological complex is the result of the excavations carried out since 1996, as well as the restoration process that allowed it to open to the public in 2010. It is one of the few vestiges of military architecture of the 15th century and the only one in the municipality of Madrid.
