MAO Museum of Oriental Art of Turin

The MAO Museum of Oriental Art in Turin is one of the most important museums in Italy and among the largest in Europe for the knowledge and study of oriental art. The MAO is housed in the historic Palazzo Mazzonis , a monumental building from the 17th-18th century which has undergone a refined and careful restoration, which has enhanced its ancient structures and decorations and has allowed for optimal display of the Museum's works.

The Museum of Oriental Art in Turin offers a broad panorama of the ancient cultures of Asia .

In the galleries of the Museum, arranged on the four floors of the building, works from South Asia and South-East Asia (Indian subcontinent and the Indochinese peninsula), the most important collection of Chinese funerary art present in Italy, works of Japanese art are exhibited religious and secular, art from the Himalayan Region (Tibet, Nepal and Bhutan) and a significant collection of Islamic art .

On the ground floor, in addition to the evocative Japanese gardens , there is a space dedicated to temporary exhibitions . With a continuous program of exhibitions, the MAO intends to delve deeper and present particular themes and aspects of the Eastern world and civilizations to a wider audience. The MAO Oriental Art Museum organizes temporary thematic exhibitions, dedicated to particular groups of works present in its collections, seminars and conferences, concerts and other shows, educational activities and workshops.

The MAO of Turin therefore, in addition to being a cultural reference for the knowledge of oriental art, wants to represent a window onto the fascinating and complex world of Asian cultures for the Italian and European public.
