The Bagatti Valsecchi Museum in partnership with Credem Banca and Credem Euromobiliare Private Banking, in collaboration with the Zauli Museum of Faenza and Matteo Fiorini's Studio Lys, with the patronage of the Lombardy Region and the Municipality of Milan, presents from 10 May to 10 November 2024 the exhibition The gaze of feeling. The Emilian seventeenth century from the Credem art collections curated by Antonio D'Amico, director of the Museum, and Odette D'Albo, curator of the Credem art collections.

The exhibition itinerary, set inside the rooms of the Museum, presents a nucleus of ten masterpieces by the seventeenth-century Emilian masters from the Credem collections and eight ceramic sculptures by Carlo Zauli, seven of which are kept in the Zauli Museum in Faenza which underwent significant damage due to the flood that hit Romagna last year.

The golden age of Emilian art - between the end of the sixteenth century and the mid-seventeenth century - is presented through some of its protagonists, such as Denijs Calvaert, Luca Ferrari da Reggio, Alessandro Tiarini, Guido Reni, Giovanni Lanfranco and Camillo Procaccini .

Thanks to the installation by Matteo Fiorini's Studio Lys, the paintings from the Credem collections will dialogue with the identity of the rooms of the Bagatti Valsecchi Museum, offering visitors the opportunity to discover masterpieces from the banking collection rarely exhibited to the public. From Guido Reni's Ecce Homo, the artist's iconic work, to Giovanni Lanfranco's Magdalene in Glory, supported by angels and Camillo Procaccini's Saint Paul, the dialogue, which revolves around the theme of feelings, connects all the paintings on display and highlights views that tell of man's relationship with his own interiority and the Divine.

Finally, the exhibition offers a focus dedicated to the sculpture of Carlo Zauli (1926 - 2002), one of the most important artists from Faenza of the twentieth century, recognized throughout the world for his ceramics and for the innovations introduced in the production of majolica and porcelain.

The gaze of feeling therefore aims to offer a cross-section of Emilian pictorial culture and the exceptional Faenza tradition linked to majolica, of which there are some singular sixteenth-century examples also in the collections of the Bagatti Valsecchi Museum.

The exhibition, among other things, aims to support the restoration of some works in the Carlo Zauli Museum affected by last year's flood, which is why in the exhibition itinerary you will be able to admire some stoneware sculptures by the artist, who used Renaissance techniques innovating them with a contemporary language. The public will be able to see some sculptures that will be the subject of the restoration, to make visitors understand the importance of the intervention that will be carried out thanks to their contribution, giving new life to the art submerged under the blanket of mud.
