The Mudec offers visitors starting from Saturday 8 October with the great exhibition project “ Machu Picchu and the Golden Empires of Peru. 3000 years of civilization from the origins to the Incas on display ”. An exhibition that, through millennia-old artifacts, videos, immersive 3D reconstructions and an installation for images that gives the idea of a real journey through time, will ferry the public back through the millennia, telling the story of a civilization as glorious as it is ancient and remote and of which often only the last piece is known, the most recent and universally made famous by the discovery of the remains of the great sacred city of Machu Picchu. But the history of Peru begins much, much further.

The exhibition - which will remain open to the public until 19 February 2023 - is promoted by the Municipality of Milano-Cultura and created by World Heritage Exhibitions (Cityneon Holdings) and 24 ORE Cultura, in collaboration with the Government of Peru and the Ministry of Culture of Peru, the Inkatera Association, and thanks to the collaboration with the Larco Museum in Lima, from which the more than 170 artifacts on display come.

The project, curated by Ulla Holmquist director of the LARCO Museum in Lima and archaeologist Carole Fraresso, crosses the Andean artistic history and biodiversity in all its wide geographical dimension and chronological depth, to culminate with an ideal journey in the Inca city of Machu Picchu.

The exhibition presents a selection of more than 170 surprisingly beautiful artifacts: terracotta works of great expressiveness and technical perfection, but also gold, silver and fabrics. A part of the route is dedicated to the adventurous journey alongside the mythical hero of the Moche Culture Ai Apaec through which the public will discover the mysteries of Andean cosmology, moving transversally through the three planes of the universe: the above, the here and the below. . “Machu-Picchu and the Golden Empires of Peru” in Milan is the exclusive Italian stop on an international tour.
