The show

From 10 April 2024, the Arnaldo Pomodoro Foundation presents Off Script in the spaces of the Museo del Novecento in Milan, the personal exhibition of the Dutch artist Magali Reus (The Hague, 1981), winner of the VII edition of the Arnaldo Pomodoro Prize for Sculpture.

Created in collaboration with the Museo del Novecento, the exhibition, curated by Federico Giani, displays a selection of the artist's most recent sculptures, the Clementine, a series that takes its visual inspiration from the jars of jam and preserves of the family tradition . In these works, a nostalgic feeling for home food production is intertwined with the reality of mass production and distribution by multinationals, as well as with the subsequent reappropriation and refunctionalization of these products in the domestic context, capable of transforming them into contradictory objects, containers of intimate memories. and personal. The Clementine series, oversized compared to the objects they are inspired by, and made with resins and metals, are intentionally artificial and destabilizing sculptural objects. They represent, according to Reus' poetics, a reconfiguration of familiar and habitual objects that constitute our world.

During the period of the exhibition, Fondazione Arnaldo Pomodoro will also present at the Museo del Novecento a new artist's book created by Magali Reus, published in collaboration with Lenz Press: an original type specimen book built around the font KOOL ("cabbage" in Dutch) . This font, halfway between a vegetable alphabet and concrete poetry, is the result of research that Reus has been carrying out for three years, focused on the visual and calligraphic relationship between red cabbage scraps and the letters of the Latin alphabet.
