From 28 January to 21 June 2026
At the Museo del Novecento, in the Ettore and Claudia Gian Ferrari Archives, an in-depth analysis of the relationship between Metaphysics and Milan is carried out: the surprising connection between some protagonists of the group led by de Chirico and the city, a crossroads of artistic and intellectual life, but also a laboratory for experimentation and dialogue among the arts, is investigated.
In the exhibition space, the public encounters a selection of drawings, models, clothing, archival materials, and photographs, showcasing the activities of de Chirico, Savinio, and Carrà in the capital of Lombardy and their collaboration with some of the most important artistic and cultural institutions in the city. In particular, sketches of stage designs and costumes created by them between the forties and fifties for Teatro alla Scala, as well as vintage photographs and preparatory drawings of the Bagni Misteriosi designed for the Milan Triennale.
A focus is then dedicated to "Ascolto il tuo cuore, città" (1944) by Alberto Savinio, which encapsulates "all the 'carnal' love that a man can have for a city." A series of 10 tables by Mimmo Paladino titled "Drawings for Savinio" is dedicated to this documentary novel, extracting situations and atmospheres, composing sequences of a kind of unintentional neorealist drawn film, governed by a calibrated play between fidelity and infidelity, between shreds of writings and visions.
