The Veneranda Biblioteca Ambrosiana will host in the Crypt of San Sepolcro , from 6 April 2023 to 9 May 2023 , “ Oliviero Rainaldi. 2023 AD” , an exhibition that focuses on the five salient moments in the life of Christ: birth, infancy, martyrdom, death and resurrection. The five large works on display will inhabit the mystical spaces of the Crypt. These are three oils on wood and a charcoal drawing on dust paper, made between 2000 and 2003, and a backlit marble sculpture created specifically for the Crypt.

The site specific sculpture is a tribute to the Holy Shroud of Turin, a reflection on the symbolic and practical importance of the use of hands in the New and Old Testaments and on the relationships between time and eternity, between death and the Resurrection .

The sculpture, made of backlit white marble, measuring 18 × 68 × 200 cm, bears the title of Ambrosian Shroud . The image of the body is created by digging into the back of the surface, illuminated with special LED panels in order to highlight the body of Christ, which is thus composed of light. The upper surface is perfectly smooth, except for the hands, which emerge from the surface protruding in three-dimensional form: the hands of Christ quote the famous Rembrandt painting Return of the Prodigal Son in which the father's hands are one male and one female.

On April 20, in the Rainaldi exhibition entitled " Calma tu Alma ", two other works will be presented at the Pantheon in Rome which will close the cycle begun in the Ambrosiana for a total of 7 works. The symbol of hands will also play an important role in Roman sculptures. The first, also in backlit marble, will be positioned under the pronaos and will represent a Crucifixion/Resurrection made evident by the posture. At the center of the building will be placed a sculpture dedicated to the revolutionary discovery of the "God particle" by Higgs. The sculpture will mention the two hands in Michelangelo's creation at the Sistine Chapel but, otherwise, they will join together generating contact between the index fingers. The will of this second exhibition is to launch a message of moderation and reflection, taking up the teachings of Christianity for which the ultimate goal of every action is peace.
