In the Historical Archive of Graphic Design at AIAP CDPG, there are some real design archives (such as the Funds Enrico Ciuti, Massimo Dolcini, Graciela Ana Galvani, Alfredo Mastellaro, Claudia Morgagni, Ilio Negri, Danilo Nubioli, Sergio Ruffolo, Antonio Tubaro, Daniele Turchi, in addition to that of the Association itself), a series of smaller funds of lesser importance (dedicated to well-known and lesser-known figures in graphic design) and small collections.
The Historical Archive is the result of a research and acquisition work initiated by Mario Piazza as early as the early 2000s and continued consistently from 2009 onwards. A research work aimed at identifying the possibility of creating possible stories of graphic design over time, such as the one dedicated to the specific aspect of typographic culture with the collection and acquisition of documentary materials such as specimens, manuals, foundry catalogs. Or like the one dedicated to the form of the book that allows for research fields towards specific moments of editorial graphics (such as editorial series sold by mail order), or towards the documentation of authors (for example Sutnar, Rand, Munari, ...), or towards the reconstruction of editorial stories (for example the De Agostini series Il Timone by Max Huber or those edited by Rizzoli whose graphics were curated by Mario Dagrada).
But there are many possible stories of graphic design yet to be studied, deepened, written: beyond monographic reading, there are themes, areas, personalities, contexts, and discourses that allow for the renewal and enrichment of historical narratives and the possibilities of enhancing heritage.
