The MUTEF | Museo Teatro di Figura di Milano was born from the collaboration between the puppetry tradition of the Compagnia Carlo Colla & Figli and the Municipality of Milan with the support of Fondazione Cariplo. It is a museum structured with a fixed part dedicated to the history of Italian and Milanese puppets and marionettes in particular, with materials dating back to the second half of the seventeenth century to the present day, and an interchangeable thematic part (on a six-monthly basis), which alternates major exhibitions related to specific themes present in the historical archive managed by Grupporiani with the hosting of the most important Italian and international museum and theater realities.
The presence, in the same building as the museum, of the artisan workshops of Grupporiani that can be visited and all the Historical Archives of Teatro di Figura, will make it possible to deepen the knowledge aimed at the public and carried out through conferences, meetings, and seminars at a national and international level, as well as training initiatives aimed at young people and students, who, starting from the artisanal work, heritage of the nineteenth-century tradition, through the "material" and "official" culture, can understand the work that leads to the staging of a puppet show.
In 2021, the MUTEF saw its opening in streaming mode, through guided tours of the exhibition "Le figure di Dante," the artisan workshops of the Compagnia Carlo Colla & Figli, where puppets, costumes, scenography, and props were created for the staging of "Una divina commedia," which was performed in June 2021 at the Piccolo Teatro Grassi in Milan.
