ICA Milan Foundation presents The Symmetry of Fragility, a collective exhibition dedicated to one of the most interesting themes that emerged in these over 70 days of coexistence with the pandemic, a project conceived and created for the Massimo De Carlo Virtual Space.
The exhibition is part of the Risorgimento - Milan Virtual Art Summer project promoted during the summer by the Massimo de Carlo gallery which has invited five Milanese exhibition spaces to experience the combination of art and virtual reality by making their VSpace available. ICA will be the protagonist from Tuesday 23 June to Sunday 5 July 2020 with the third VSpace exhibition proposal.
The exhibition The symmetry of fragility is curated by Alberto Salvadori and Luigi Fassi and presents a selection of works by Maliheh Afnan, Miriam Cahn, Lisetta Carmi, Louis Fratino, Arjan Martins, Jennifer Packer, Andy Robert, Cathy Josefowitz and Portia Zvavahera.
The virtual exhibition itinerary consists of works created by authors with different origins, cognitive encyclopedias and generations of belonging, however united by an approach to reality characterized by values attributable to the concept of "fragility".
In the common contemporary sense, fragility is quickly counted among the negative conditions of inferiority, a defect of origin to be corrected under penalty of social marginalization and condemnation to uselessness. However, there is a widely followed line of thought, supported by the reflections of art in all its forms and by the research of medicine and psychology, which wants in the fragility hidden values of sensitivity and delicacy, dignity and kindness. A primary quality of fragility is its ability to foster understanding of the other, opening up to the dimension of care and community, up to the intuition of the unspeakable and invisible that accompany us in life.
