ongoing The enchantment of truth

The show

The BPER Banca Gallery presents the exhibition The Enchantment of Truth in the spaces of its art gallery in Modena. Fragments of everyday life in still life between the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, open to the public free of charge from 5 April to 30 June 2024.

The exhibition, curated by Lucia Peruzzi, reveals to the public for the first time fifteen of the most significant paintings from the core of still lifes in the BPER Banca collection, accompanied for the occasion by a selection of eleven masterpieces from private collections and public institutions in the construction of a precious itinerary that winds through the main artistic schools of the Emilia-Romagna basin between the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries. In dialogue with the paintings, the curator of the historical archive of BPER Banca, Chiara Pulini, offers a selection of documents from the State Archive of Modena and the private Rangoni Machiavelli archive which expresses the profound link between the image transmitted by 'work of art with life lived.

Recipes, menus and handout books are intertwined with the colours, flavors and smells that arise from still lifes. The written words substantiate the images with historical truth, making the suggestion of being participants in the life lived inside the Po Valley houses of the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries even more vivid.
