The Kunsthalle München is an exhibition space in Munich. Located in the heart of downtown Munich, between Marienplatz and Odeonsplatz, since 1985, the year of its foundation, the Kunsthalle München has organized three to four thematic, monographic and often interdisciplinary temporary exhibitions annually. With an international reputation, the most important criterion for selecting an exhibition theme is the highest artistic quality. The organized exhibitions range from prehistory and protohistory to the present day and embrace all fields: painting, sculpture, graphics, photography, crafts or design.
The most successful exhibitions of recent years have included Claude Monet and the Modern Age (237,000 visitors), Folkwang: Primo Museo d'Arte Moderna (236,000 visitors), Jean Paul Gaultier (213,000), Pompeii: Life on the Volcano (190,000 visitors) and Mark Rothko (139,000 visitors). The art gallery has an average of around 350,000 visitors per year.
The Kunsthalle München organizes a communication program for the contents and arrangements of temporary exhibitions in close collaboration with various regional and national cultural institutions. The accompanying program regularly includes guided tours, lectures, concerts, parties and events, as well as offers for children and families.
