The Städtische Galerie im Lenbachhaus and Kunstbau is an internationally operating museum in Munich in which the presentation of art and the associated discourse combine to create a meaningful unity and identity. The Lenbachhaus bases its reputation as an internationally important museum on its unique collection of works by the Blaue Reiter.
The Lenbachhaus presents Munich art of the 19th century, the art of the Blaue Reiter and Neue Sachlichkeit as well as, above all, international contemporary art. There are also changing special exhibitions on international contemporary artists and classics from the collection as well as a variety of guided tours and workshop formats for children, adults and seniors. The ELLA museum café and the beautiful historic garden, which is freely accessible during opening hours, are ideal for a relaxed art break.
The architecture of the museum is also a highlight. The artist's villa, built in 1887 in the Tuscan style by Gabriel von Seidl, was expanded in 2013 with a modern cubic extension by the English architectural firm Foster&Partners.
