The Museo del Satiro is located in the historic center of Mazara del Vallo and is located inside the church of Sant'Egidio. The church is a building of great architectural interest built in 1384. The Museum is named after the wonderful statue of the satyr exhibited in the museum since 2005. The bronze statue was found in two different moments: first the left leg came to light and, secondly place, the body without the other leg and arms. The satyr is represented during the ecstasy of the dance with his hair wrapped in the wind. It is thought that the satyr was part of a group of statues and that he was shipwrecked during a journey between Sicily and Capo Bon. The Museum also exhibits artifacts from the waters of the Sicilian channel found during underwater excavations. Among the most important works are: the bronze fragment of an elephant's paw from the Punic - Hellenist period; a selection of transport amphorae from the Archaic, Classical, Hellenistic, Punic, Roman and Medieval periods; and finally, a medieval bronze cauldron.
