Interior with Marbles is the work of Flavio Favelli presented for the ninth appointment of Incontri Sensibili , the focus exhibitions that place ancient and contemporary art in dialogue.
The installation, curated by Angela Tecce and Sylvain Bellenger, with the collaboration of Luciana Berti, was conceived in relation to the Ciborium, built between 1619 and 1623, based on a project by Cosimo Fanzago to contain the Blessed Sacrament in the church of Santa Patricia in Naples. A real miniature architecture, embellished by the marble technique that imitates plant shoots, vases with flowers and birds, a monumental Neapolitan Baroque tabernacle in gilded bronze, gilded copper, polychrome marbles and semi-precious stones (jaspers, amethyst, agate, lapis lazuli).
A dialogue that is not limited to the tabernacle but which also extends to the other works on display in the exhibition " Beyond Caravaggio. A new tale of painting in Naples ”, edited by Stefano Causa and Patrizia Piscitello.
Interno con Marmi is made up of materials of various origins, marble and wood, which evoke the domestic environments of Italian bourgeois houses. The work produces an ambiguous and unstable space, played on a few homogeneous colours, with blind spots and narrow spaces, resulting in strong contrast with the symmetry and preciousness of the Ciborium, an expression of the Neapolitan Baroque. Like a monument on a pedestal, Favelli's work brings together fragments of personal and collective memories. At the same time, it compares two aesthetic and cultural models, both dedicated to guarding an unknowable mystery.
Travel memories on which an imaginary linked to the Italian province is grafted, which remains a constant cultural reference in Favelli 's poetics.
