Palazzo Bianciforte is located in the historic center of Palermo. The palace has baroque origins and was built by the will of the noble family of Nicolò Placido Branciforte Lanza, count of Raccuja. The Palazzo was purchased and opened to the public in 2012 by the Sicily Foundation. The ground floor of the building houses the collections, made up of archaeological finds and majolica. The main floor is instead the seat of the philatelic, numismatic and sculpture collations, together with the Library. The archaeological section is considered the richest and most important nucleus of the collection. Among the exhibits are funerary objects, ceramics, terracotta, bronzes, glass, ivories and jewelry from the excavations of Selinunte, Himera, Solunto and Terravecchia di Cuti. The majolica collection includes a whole of the highest quality and artistic value. They stand out among all the pieces of the sixteenth-century Urbino factory by Francesco Durantino. The philatelic collection, which includes postal documents and postage stamps from the Kingdom of the Two Sicily, is very curious. The collection of sculptures consists of works from the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. Among the most famous artists are: Giacomo Manzù, Lucio Fontana, Vincenzo Gemito, Emilio Greco and many others. The Palace is now home to temporary exhibitions and cultural events.
