From 14 July to 14 August 2022 in Palermo Palazzo Butera hosts the photographic exhibition Wendy , the result of the workshop for girls and boys conceived by the photographers Ornella Mazzola and Andrea Petrosino and commissioned by ETS YOLK ™ Palermo, chaired by Clementina Cordero di Montezemolo.

The project is supported by the Allenora Foundation, hosted and promoted by the Palazzo Butera Foundation, curated by Valentina Bruschi and Ferdinando Foresta , with the precious collaboration of Baco About Photographs (Andrea Campesi and Valentina Sestieri), mother superior Sister Anna Ercolina Saullo dell ' institute of the Artigianelle of the Daughters of Sant'Anna alla Kalsa and of Don Giuseppe Di Giovanni of the parish of Santa Maria della Pietà alla Kalsa together with the volunteers: Antonella, Lucia and Nino.

On display 17 poster format images , 10 analogue prints , a video on monitor that collects almost all the digitally scanned images and 3 polaroids that show an intimate and poetic testimony of the historic center of Palermo and the life of the girls and boys who have them immortalized.

Inspired by the work of the American photographer and teacher Wendy Ewald, Ornella Mazzola and Andrea Petrosino began a photographic journey together with nine girls and boys from the Kalsa district of Palermo, during the months of May and June 2022, with the aim of bringing them closer to the their artistic and creative sensibility as well as the spaces and the collection of Palazzo Butera.

The WENDY series of workshops is in fact inspired by the “Literacy through Photography” method, or “Literacy through Photography” conceived by Ewald in the 1980s. His teaching work, which began with his experience as an elementary school teacher in the heart of the Appalachian mountains (USA), led in 1985 to the creation of the book Portraits and Dreams: Photographs and Stories by Children of The Appalachians , giving the opportunity to children who lived far from large towns, to reflect on their families, dreams, fears and free their imagination.
