The Musee d'art et d'histoire du Judaisme is a Paris museum located in the Marais district, in the 3rd arrondissement of the city. The Museum is dedicated to the historical evolution of the Jewish communities of France, Europe and North Africa, from the Middle Ages to the 20th century, through their different forms of artistic expression, their cultural heritage and their traditions. The museum was inaugurated in 1998 and is located inside of a 17th century hotel particulier (former private residence). Of particular interest is the section dedicated to contemporary Judaism, where the formation of modern anti-Semitism is illustrated, from the Dreyfus case to deportation. In addition, the museum also preserves some works by Chagall, Modigliani, Soutine and Kikoïne, which evoke the Jewish presence in the Parisian art of the twentieth century. The Museum is spread over three wings, and is equipped with an ultra-modern museographic space, with the presence of a library, a video library and a 198-seat auditorium.
