From 16 October to 6 January 2022
The Municipality of Pavia, Department of Culture, is organizing a special photographic exhibition for the coming autumn months dedicated to the last 35 years of our city. In fact, the project makes use of the collaboration of the photographic archive of the well-known professional from Pavia Paolo Torres, who throughout his career has created (Il Giorno and Corriere della Sera are some of the publications for which he worked) politics, culture and university life, sports and social life that happened in Pavia; images that tell of our great entrepreneurship, together with the portraits of excellent personalities of the city alongside other more anonymous ones, all however capable of “making a story”.
The Department of Culture, also to underline the resumption of activities after the long closure due to a health emergency, wanted to offer the city an exhibition that, in a specially designed setting, also becomes an archive of memory. A surprising journey into a photo album in which everyone can look for themselves, recognize themselves or a relative, see a friend, an old acquaintance ... .. In short, a story in images of our history: that of Pavia and its community, which is intertwined with that of the country and the world.
We think, among others, of the shot of the first Italian girl sick with AIDS who goes around the world, the images of the first heart transplant and the kidnappings of Cesare Casella and Giuliano Ravizza; the reportages on the visits of the Popes, the Presidents of the Republic, but also the images of the floods, the struggles of work and art events. Happy and other sad events, illustrious and anonymous people, between news and history, between sacred and profane. Faces, monuments, streets, events that are the protagonists of Torres' objective and of our history: the result is the story of a city that changes, that does not forget its past and that looks straight at the future.
