The MUST was born from the merger of the three historical museums of Geology, Mineralogy and Paleontology of Sapienza University of Rome, in which about 35,000 mineralogical, 6,000 geological and 100,000 paleontological samples are kept (minerals, gems, meteorites, rocks and fossils, which often constitute unique specimens at national and international level), as well as books, thematic maps and instruments of historical importance.
The total area of the MUST, distributed over 4 floors, is approximately 4,100 meter squared, almost entirely dedicated to the exhibition halls. To these are added approximately 300 m2 intended for research laboratories shared between the Museum, Department and Faculty.
At the moment, only a room of about 480 meter squared is fully available for use, hosting the temporary exhibition "Earth: what a surprise!". The other spaces will soon be ready for opening, at the end of a demanding and complete process of restructuring the spaces.
