closed Territories of performance: paths and practices in Italy

The show

An overview of performative research in Italy, in the season that sees the emergence of artists, exhibition spaces and exhibitions, in a close dialogue with the international scenario, as evidenced by the assiduous presence of the exponents of Fluxus and Body Art.

The territorial dimension referred to in the title has a double meaning, both geographical and as a site of creation and occurrence of the action, thematized in the exhibition through four different chromatic areas: the artist's studio and the domestic environment; the gallery; alternative and informal places; institutions, such as museums and large exhibitions.

In the new centrality of the body affirmed by performance, issues related to identity and self-representation, politics, anthropology, myth and art history, the private dimension as a strategy of resistance and self-affirmation emerge.

To visually narrate ephemeral artistic practices that escape the linear processes of historicization, photographs, drawings and sketches, documents taken from magazines and publications of the time, videos and oral testimonies are on display.
