From June 17 to September 21, 2025, the National Gallery of Modern and Contemporary Art in Rome hosts A narrative along a personal journey by Andrea Lelario curated by Nicoletta Provenzano.

Drawing, etching, graphite, photogravure are the artist's favorite techniques, who in this exhibition traces an exhibition itinerary on the theme of travel as a poetic key and symbolic device to investigate the deep connection between the unconscious and matter, memory and imagination, dream and cosmos. Among works on paper, copper matrices, and notebooks, Lelario composes a captivating and magnetic aesthetic language.

Key elements of a symbolic and intimate journey, two model trains, in 1:87 scale, materialize thought and unconscious as an ideal perpetual motion, suspended between places and identities, allegory of a nomadic philosophy and a time without coordinates, merging with the exploratory and enigmatic world of the artist's notebooks. The train, alter ego of the soul in motion, thus becomes a metaphor for destiny and a figure of the imaginary: a continuous crossing between the real and the possible destinations.

Around this "narrative along a journey," the exhibition unfolds in an investigation that traverses soul, universe, and psyche, fantasy and reality, dream and mystery in its intimate and diary-like narrative.

The exhibition intertwines Jungian studies on archetypes, embodying the different stages of the Soul, with imaginary landscapes evoking a narrative journey along the rarefied atmosphere of the Grand Tour and the Castelli Romani; it delves into the galactic universe and neural networks by tracing cosmic and mental maps. Etching and photogravure become tools to investigate the radiant energy that structures both the matter of the cosmos and that of human interiority. The sign becomes subtle and branched, in a continuous symbolic germination that embraces the enigma of existence and the depth of the unconscious.

Moving between the territories of the visible and the dreamed, the two Frecciarossa trains - specular - cross mental landscapes scattered with signifying filaments and vibrant lines. The trains, at the same time concrete and imaginary, undertake a fantastic itinerary in which time and space expand, restoring the fluctuating dimension of thought and identity.
