The show

The “UP!” exhibition arrives at Palazzo Merulana curated by Liliana Liao, with Associna, and Guang Hua Cultures et Media.

On the occasion of the celebrations of the Chinese New Year 2023, Associna (Association of Chinese Second Generations) and Guang Hua Cultures et Media are launching a collective exhibition of very young Chinese artists at Palazzo Merulana, to bring a new wind to the city!

Seven Chinese artists who have chosen to train in Italy, at the Academy of Fine Arts in Rome, each with a different language and expressive way, tell with authenticity the constant search for an organic balance between East (China) and West (Italy ).

The intrinsic link with Italian art and culture and the syncretic vision become the tools to amalgamate two opposing worlds, in an attempt to reconcile the millenary tradition of the Celestial Empire with the urgencies of a very young generation that is confronted with contemporary international art .

The dimension explored is the hybrid paradigm that tunes the soul and spirit of a Chinese perspective with motifs and influences rooted in Western culture.

In this sense “UP!” represents the growth path of Chinese generation Z artists who wish to rise and tend upwards, towards an evolution, themselves becoming the bridge that crosses the two worlds through art.

This will be the context that will reveal to us how a seed of Chinese culture in Italian soil can take root, germinate, blossom and bear fruit, to compose a new symphony!
