From 21 May to 21 September 2025
Achromatic ceramics, figurative vases, black-painted and overpainted decoration, terracotta statuettes: these are some of the pieces of stolen history, works that have ended up in the circuit of illegality and then recovered, which make up the exhibition "Rediscovered. Lights and shadows of collecting", inaugurated this morning in the Grottone of Palazzo Jatta in Ruvo di Puglia.
The material on display, found thanks to recoveries, seizures, and donations followed by the Public Prosecutor's Office and the Carabinieri Command for the Protection of Cultural Heritage, has been assigned to Puglia based on its presumed origin, a testimony to the diverse narrative of the regional cultural heritage. The core of artifacts, often torn illicitly, hastily, and crudely from their contexts, resulting in the loss of essential information for reconstructing their history, is thus exhibited at the National Museum Jatta in Ruvo di Puglia, a place that excellently represents the history of collecting, returning the communities of belonging to their link with the past.
Also on display are ten artifacts belonging to the same recovery operations, assigned to the Regional Directorate of National Museums in Basilicata and loaned for the exhibition following a protocol of understanding between the DRMN Puglia and the DRMN Basilicata.
