From 24 October to 1 March 2026
After the success of last year's exhibitions dedicated to Robert Doisneau and Elliott Erwitt, the great photography of authors returns as the protagonist of the autumn cultural offer in the province of Cuneo.
Starting from next October, the Filatoio di Caraglio and the Castiglia di Saluzzo, jewels of the Piedmontese architectural heritage, will host the monographic exhibitions of two absolute protagonists of 20th-century photography: Helmut Newton (1920-2004) and Ferdinando Scianna (1943). The exhibition projects, promoted and realized by Fondazione Artea, offer an original path, delving into unpublished or little explored aspects of the careers of the two authors. At the same time, thanks to a close curatorial collaboration, the exhibitions are conceived to interact with each other, offering the public two complementary visions of fashion, seen by Scianna as a narrative of life and by Newton as a provocation of the imaginary.
The Castiglia di Saluzzo (CN), an ancient fortress, now a museum space and a place of contemporary art, which in the last two years has hosted projects dedicated to the great masters of Magnum Photos, continues its vocation for photographic storytelling by hosting, from October 24, 2025 to March 1, 2026, the solo exhibition of Ferdinando Scianna (Bagheria, PA, 1943), the first Italian photographer to be included among the members of the prestigious international agency.
The exhibition, titled “Fashion, Life”, curated by Denis Curti, artistic director of Le Stanze della Fotografia in Venice, explores for the first time, one of the lesser-known chapters of Scianna's career: fashion. An area that the author approaches with his photojournalistic language, dismantling any glossy aesthetics in favor of a more human narrative. Iconic in this journey is the campaign for Dolce&Gabbana with the model Marpessa, set in the villages of Sicily: a fashion experienced in reality and on the streets, rather than constructed in poses, which will give rise to one of the most successful collaborations in the history of photography.
