Located in the picturesque square of Mondagli, one of the most charming corners of the historic center of Saluzzo, Casa Pellico is a medieval building, situated just outside the 1280 city walls, near the ancient Mondagli gate which was demolished in 1890.

The restoration works, carried out by the Municipality after its purchase in the mid-nineties of the last century, allow us to retrace its history: it is a medieval building, transformed in subsequent eras, with frescoed pointed arches on the facade; in the sixteenth century, the loggias were added on the top floor, now walled up, while the closed and terraced loggia on the square level dates back to the early nineteenth century. On the first floor, there is a valuable neoclassical-style room, adorned on the walls and ceiling, with a mosaic floor.

In the small apartment on the first floor, the writer and patriot Silvio Pellico was born on June 25, 1789, and spent his early childhood years there until 1793, always cherishing an affectionate memory of his hometown.

The Municipality of Saluzzo also owes the original and most important nucleus of the collection of manuscripts and translations belonging to the illustrious writer and patriot to the generosity of Giuseppina Pellico, now preserved in the Historical Funds of the Library. Since 2013, Casa Pellico has been part of the circuit of the National Association of Houses of Memory.
