From 13 December to 3 May 2026
He is one of the most controversial Italian artists and certainly the exhibition "Anthology", curated by art critic Luca Nannipieri, which reveals twenty-five years of activity, will leave its mark. There are over 70 works by Giuseppe Veneziano, an Italian artist and a major exponent of "New Pop", which will be on display at the Fortezza Firmafede in Sarzana (La Spezia) from December 13, 2025, to May 3, 2026.
The exhibition presents itself as one of the largest exhibitions dedicated to him, consecrating him as a reference artist in the contemporary art scene: pop and provocative works, including large paintings and sculptures, some of which have already been subject to censorship and have attracted the attention of the general public, major art critics, international fashion brands, as well as personalities from the world of culture, television, and journalism. The artist's most discussed works, commented on in the mass media by personalities such as Oriana Fallaci, Oliviero Toscani, Nobel Prize winner Dario Fo, Giampiero Mughini, Philippe Daverio, and Vittorio Sgarbi, will be exhibited on the two floors of the Fortezza Firmafede in Sarzana for a true anthology.
Among the works on display are some of his most famous and debated masterpieces, such as Novecento, The Massacre of the Innocents, Almost Friends, Selfie (which provided the image for the cover of the catalog: the girl with the pearl earring by Vermeer reinterpreted in the age of social networks) up to the most recent production.
The artist Veneziano writes in the catalog published by Sagep editori: "Often my works are visual traps. You may find yourself in front of a suggestive, colorful, captivating image, while the subject is a crime scene. When you represent something, you cannot limit yourself to painting only the beautiful, the good, the fun: it would be a partial view of the world you live in. Through my works, I try to represent the contextuality of opposite dimensions, such as good and evil".
