The show

On Friday 14th April at 18.30 in the Project Room, museum space of the CRAC Puglia (Contemporary Art Research Center), the inauguration of the solo exhibition of the artist Epeo (Trebisacce, 1956), curated by the critic Cecilia Pavone, will take place. The exhibition is promoted and organized by the CRAC Puglia, sponsored by the Municipality of Taranto, the Puglia Region (Culture Department, Protection and Development of Cultural Enterprises, Tourism, Development and Tourist Enterprise), in collaboration with local and national associations and institutions (Amica Sofia of Perugia, F@MU-Families at the museum, Committee for the quality of life, Friends of Museums, FAI delegation of Taranto, Tarenti Cives, Ella, Dante Alighieri Society, Marco Motolese and Club for UNESCO of Taranto, Taranto Group, Ante Litteram, Contaminations).

The artist's personal exhibition presents a significant selection of plastic-pictorial works representative of his poetics. “The universality of the sacred, nature as a primordial hierophantic space, the symbolic transfiguration of the archetypal roots at the base of the myth - writes the curator Cecilia Pavone in the catalog - characterize the poiesis of Epeo. The artist's emblematic style, marked by the use of essential materials, primarily stone and iron, evokes primitive cultic dimensions, ancestral rites and magical-mythical visions, coming from the abysmal depths of the collective unconscious. Permeated by an intense symbolic value, Epeo's work springs from an atavistic bond with his homeland, Calabria, and with the Ionian Sea, identified in the mythical figure of Leucothea. The conception of the sacred, in his poetics, is intrinsically related to territorial belonging, which has become the root of identity, and can be assimilated to the term hieròs, which in ancient Greek indicates the divine power to consecrate nature, unlike the terms hagnós and hágios, which designate the sacred as an intrinsic attribute of the divinity”.

For the occasion, a publication was produced for the CRAC Puglia editions containing the introduction by Dr. Giovanna Tagliaferro, director of the Rocco Spani Onlus Foundation, the critical text by Dr. Cecilia Pavone, an iconographic apparatus and the note artist biography.
