closed WHISPERS OF AMNESIA

The show

On Saturday 7 October at 6.00 pm, as part of the 19th edition of Amaci Contemporary Day (Association of Italian Contemporary Art Museums), in the historic Palazzo Pantaleo (18th century), the inaugurations of two exhibitions will take place of contemporary art: the first, Monumental Elements, with installations by Giulio De Mitri, Laura Mega, Diego Repetto, Oliver Ressler, collective exhibition curated by critics Lanfranco Aceti and Alessandro Melis (on the main floor of the building); the second, Whispers of Amnesia, an installation by Lanfranco Aceti, curated by the critic Artemis Potamianou (in the stables, on the ground floor of the building).

The exhibitions are an important preview of the fourth edition of the MAS WEEK - Festival of Architecture, Design and Contemporary Art. They were conceived by MAS-Modern Apulian Style, organized by the Ella Association with the contribution of the Municipality of Taranto and the collaboration of the CRAC Puglia (Contemporary Art Research Centre), of the Taranto Grand Tour, together with territorial and national institutions and associations.

WHISPERS OF AMNESIA is the title of Lanfranco Aceti's environmental installation, which works on memory and - as the curator writes - "invites us to witness the ghosts of betrayal, the shadows of abandonment and the struggle to forget every single day what has passed, searching for the will to live another day. While these whispers resonate in the conflict between remembering and forgetting, the artworks ask viewers to unravel the toxic and forgotten events of the past, remembering everything, every single thing, to get as close as possible to the truth (ἀλήθεια) and move away from the chains of social amnesia (λήθη).

As the sun sets on a world burned by its indifference, Aceti's installation gradually reveals itself, weaving together narratives of toxic waste, social conflict and personal turmoil. A mixture of materials: fabrics, reliefs and engraved linen that lay bare the collective act of oblivion. It is within this realm of memories, unshakable and eternal, but in reality narratives of the victors and the powerful, that the user embarks on a journey that invites us to explore the intricate fabric of forgotten and excluded narratives and obscured and secreted truths."
