The Villa Adriana and Villa d'Este Institute - VILLÆ celebrates Dante Alighieri on the occasion of the 700th anniversary of his death, with a new exhibition appointment of the articulated and visionary project Vita nova : art in Italy in the light of the new millennium (Villa d'Este , March 19 - June 5 2022), which provides for a survey of young Italian art in the two decades that characterized the turn of the century, from 1990 to 2010. The initiative represents a first historicization of the period considered and at the same time is a tribute to great poet, father of national literary identity. Just as Dante represents the idea of a common Italian language, so the proposal questions the persistence or otherwise of a specific culture of our country: of a visual lexicon shared among the most representative exponents of those generations, composing a real index of contemporary Italian creation.

This exhibition episode, like the previous one that was linked to the sphere of private collectors and artists, enjoys the support of the National Committee for the celebration of the 700th anniversary of the death of Dante Alighieri, starts from a close scientific survey of works of a museum nature . The protagonists of the exhibition are above all the loans from the MAXXI - National Museum of 21st Century Arts , which contributes with its collections to defining a panorama that is as exhaustive as possible of the ferment and problems that distinguish visual research in Italy in the strictly contemporary world.
