Curated by: Maria Centonze e Agata Polizzi

The show

Fondazione Merz presents the thirteenth edition of Meteorite in the Garden, a historic summer art exhibition that takes its name from a work by Mario Merz from 1976, curated by Maria Centonze and Agata Polizzi, entitled We are made of the same substance as dreams, once again as a moment of mediation between present and future, between the limits that divide our sense of belonging to the concrete and the profound need to explore, contemplate and build a dreamlike and liberating vision through art.

The artists invited for this new edition are Basim Magdy, Silvia Maglioni & Graeme Thomson and Nina Carini who present the following works: MAGNET by Basim Magdy, a video that begins with a balloon floating in the sky above Manhattan, continues with a journey to the center of the earth and ends with an apocalyptic vision that involves the entire city: a poetic progression that tells, through dream images, a world set in motion towards a radical transformation.

Silvia Maglioni & Graeme Thomson in LIKE LICHENS LISTEN, a video work and installation of words that transport the visitor to the forest, to witness the life of trees and to listen to the sounds of nature. Nina Carini with the installation The indeterminacy of an encounter, unites the sky and the earth in a mirror of water in which unpredictable and profound sound vibrations arrive from a mysterious elsewhere. Light, sound and matter mix, fluid and changing and together they become microcosms in which to live. To unite the works, in the vision of the curators, is the relationship between the artist's action and the dream. As in Shakespeare's Tempest, from which the title of this edition takes its cue, the exhibition offers the visitor to be a guest of a wonderful island full of pitfalls, continuous proofs of our ability to be in the world, living its daily adventure, whose center is the perfect representation of the mystery of existence.

The artist's action amplifies the visionary that belongs to us, suggests possible scenarios, takes us back to the dream. As in Shakespeare's work all the natural elements and all the myths are contained, there is the past and the future, there is humanity at the mercy of the unpredictable, there is the audacity and the awareness of being creators of themselves.
