Bread as social architecture, the work of the land as a universal language. From Thursday, February 5th until mid-June 2026 at the Archaeological Museum of Palazzo Ducale in Tricarico opens the section "Land, work, and bread. Forms of living in the rural world", an integral part of the exhibition path "The goddesses of wheat", currently taking place throughout Basilicata and started on December 20, 2025 with the first stages in the locations of Matera, Metaponto, Policoro, and Potenza.

The new exhibition section juxtaposes the photographic investigation of Luigi Spina with the precious artifacts from the ethnographic collection of the National Museums of Matera, creating a collective narrative about rural life, its rituals, and its hopes.

The heart of the exhibition consists of 50 black and white photographs (50x60 cm format) in which Luigi Spina explores the identity of objects. The central core is dedicated to the bread stamps, wooden stamps that for centuries have marked the belonging of loaves to different Matera families. In Spina's images, the shapes of bread and artifacts resonate with the landscape of Matera in a play of surfaces, tones, and volumes where food and land reflect each other.

The exhibition path unfolds like a story that starts from the land, understood not only as a resource but as a vital space where effort and belonging merge. The exhibition also features a diverse selection of objects from the Vicinities of the Sassi and rural areas, including tools related to the wheat cycle and breadmaking, along with artifacts that depict various aspects of agricultural and peasant life.
