The Ringve Music Museum, founded in 1952, is the Norwegian national museum of music and musical instruments, housed in the historic Ringve Farm estate on the Lade Peninsula, a few kilometers from the center of Trondheim, surrounded by the well-kept botanical gardens of NTNU with a view of the fjord.
The collection includes over 1,500 musical instruments from around the world, as well as images, recordings, and sound archives. The permanent exhibitions are divided into two main locations: the Manor House, with historic interiors and guided tours where original instruments related to Mozart, Beethoven, Chopin, Grieg, and other great musicians are played; and the Barn (Soundtracks Instrument Gallery), which houses instruments from all eras, vintage electronics, popular and traditional instruments such as the Hardanger fiddle and Sami horns.
Among the special exhibitions, we highlight Harp, dedicated to ancient harps, and Soundtracks, an interactive gallery to explore musical cultures with live sounds and stories. Children can try real instruments in the Music Garden, a digital archive that can be interacted with playful elements.
