The show

5 artists, from Africa to Europe: sculpture, painting and installation transform the spaces of Fondazione 107 into a multi-ethnic scenography. Let's start with the title Echoes. The Echo is the phenomenon generated by an action to propagate elsewhere, until reaching an obstacle and going back, bouncing back to return to the starting point taking on new guises having implemented a transformation process. This is the attitude of the artists on display: they start from their own knowledge, from their own origins and culture to encounter others from which to draw, rework and finally render their work in other forms.

The African artists invited to the exhibition are Cyprien Tokoudagba from Benin, Ismaila Manga from Senegal, Italy, Pietro Weber, Alma Zoppegni and Luigi Farina. Contamination, the dominant motif of the exhibition, will also involve some musicians (Oreste Forestieri and Michele Salituro accompanied by Elias Farina) during the inauguration who will perform a musical performance giving voice to Luigi Farina's sculptures/instrument The “Sound Garden”. The contamination will continue in the month of June with the concert of the musical group METE, Indian scales, African rhythms, Jazz, funk and prog will merge into a single sound language, where ancient musical traditions combining with contemporaneity will give life to a refined stylistic syncretism.

Pietro Weber builds sculptures of terracotta towers projected towards an elsewhere. In ancient times the towers were created as a sighting tool to defend oneself from the enemy, sometimes to spot the stranger, the traveller, the one who was ready to share his experience. At the top of Weber's towers there is always a head, sometimes wrapped in a turban or other headgear that recalls other peoples and cultures.
