From 21 December to 21 January 2019
The prison school sections of the Plana Technical Institute and the Primo Liceo Artistico of Turin were transformed in 2018 into workshops that involved some inmates in the creation and decoration of replicas of finds from the collection of the Egyptian Museum, exhibited in the exhibition “Free to learn. Ancient Egypt in the Turin prison ".
Once the works that best lent themselves to reproduction have been identified, thanks also to some meetings with the curators of the Egyptian Museum, the students-inmates of the carpentry and decorative arts classes have dedicated themselves to the realization of the artifacts exhibited here under the guidance of their teachers. .
The accurate and faithful execution to the original was above all expectations: the safety of the stroke and the finesse of the processing are the main characteristics of these splendid works that will be used in the future in many Egyptian projects to reach all those who they cannot go to the museum rooms.
The Free to Learn Project was born from the collaboration of the Egyptian Museum with the Direction of the “Lorusso-Cutugno” Prison and the Office of the Guarantor of rights and persons deprived of liberty of the Municipality of Turin.
The exhibition, with free admission, will be open until 21 January from 10.00 to 17.00 with entrance from Via Maria Vittoria.
