In the spaces of the GAM Videoteca, a Tribute to Lothar Baumgarten, an artist who passed away in 2018, is taking shape. He was known for intertwining aesthetic research with a profound anthropological and ecological reflection.

The selection of exhibited works - particularly photographs - documents his immersive experience in the Yanomami village in Venezuela, where he lived for over a year in the late '70s.

In these shots, the landscape becomes a narrative, nature turns into language, memory, visual and symbolic construction.

The images do not simply reproduce what was seen, but open up new perspectives, revealing multiple, layered meanings. Just like in a famous photograph by the artist, where a bowl of milk with a fragment of green jelly transparently evokes an entire landscape view, Baumgarten's works challenge the separation between object and representation, between the visible and the thought.
