This year Paratissima celebrates the 19th edition of its trade fair, hosting for the last year the spaces of the Cavallerizza Complex , a UNESCO World Heritage Site in the heart of the city of Turin.

The theme he will interpret from 1 to 5 November 2023 is " Eye Contact - Match with Art ", an invitation to the public to translate the visual contact that is created between two people, to the contact between person and work of art.

The expression eye contact, rendered in Italian as "visual contact", was coined around 1960 and is one of society's most powerful non-verbal expressions.

The art on display, visual by definition, does not use verbal language to express itself, placing itself in a condition of mutability based on the interpretation of the gaze of those who enjoy it.

In fact, glances can take on infinite meanings, and in their intensity or fleetingness hide intentions, desires or perplexities. In the unpredictable blink of an eye, you can experience a game where words are mere accessories, where it is the mere exchange of glances that overwhelms you with connections, emotions and energy. Thus visual art frees itself from the need to generate a dialogue, building a silent and intimate, secret but complicit relationship with the gaze of the observer.

Why, without the gaze of those who admire it, would art exist?

For the 19th edition, Paratissima reopens all the spaces of the Cavallerizza, with an exhibition area of over 15,000 m2 . Over the 5 days of the fair , more than 400 artists divided into 10 exhibitions curated by a total of 20 curators (of which 6 from the NICE - New Independent Curatorial Experience course), plus a new section on the 3rd floor of the Cavallerizza without curatorship.
