From December 13, 2025 to March 15, 2026, the Stazione dell’Arte and the CaMuC of Ulassai host The Breath of a Journey, an exhibition of rare intensity in the Italian cultural landscape that compares two emblematic figures in art history: Albrecht Dürer and Maria Lai. Through languages distant five centuries but united by a shared sensitivity for the evocative value of the sign and the search for meaning, the exhibition invites to rediscover the power of sight and imagination. Curated by Marco Peri and Luca Baroni, the exhibition offers the exceptional opportunity to admire up close some of the most important masterpieces of Dürer's graphic work, coming from prestigious private collections. A master of the European Renaissance, Dürer was not only an undisputed master of engraving but also an innovator capable of blending Gothic heritage with the new humanistic sensitivity, introducing in his works a psychological depth and formal precision that permanently marked the history of the image. His famous engravings - including Melencolia I, The Knight, Death, the Devil, The Prodigal Son, and the Sea Monster - testify to an extremely curious sensitivity, attentive to nature and the mysteries of the human soul. In dialogue with this visionary universe, a selection of works by Maria Lai, a Sardinian artist of recognized international relevance, is presented. Her research, rooted in the ancient traditions of Sardinia, opens up to a poetic and universal dimension. The Nativity scenes, the Sewn and ceramic Books, the Breads, and the extraordinary Via Crucis of the white thread, testify to a sensitivity capable of transforming simple materials into forms of strong evocative intensity. Her work, intuitive and suspended in a timeless elsewhere, introduces a contemporary register that resonates poetically with Dürer's rigorous formal construction. The meeting between the two artists finds its synthesis in the themes that give the title to the exhibition: the breath, understood as vital breath and inner rhythm; and the journey, as a physical and spiritual dimension, an opening to discovery and a privileged space of transformation and revelation. Through this path, the exhibition brings out unexpected correspondences and restores the continuity of the great questions of art: mystery, spirituality, the relationship with time and imagination.
