The show

On the occasion of the 150th anniversary of his birth, the MAXXI National Museum of Arts of the 21st century celebrates Giacomo Balla with an exceptional project: the opening to the public, for the first time, of his incredible futurist house in via Oslavia in Rome, a total work of art, and an exhibition at MAXXI which highlights its extraordinary contemporaneity and creates a connection in space and in time.
The Casa Balla project. From home to the universe and back, curated by Bartolomeo Pietromarchi, Director of MAXXI Arte and Domitilla Dardi Curator of MAXXI Design, opens to the public in two moments: it begins on June 17 with the exhibition at MAXXI, while the house in via Oslavia will be open on weekends starting from Friday 25 June (reservations required on Casa Balla and the exhibition at MAXXI will be open until November 21, 2021.
The result of a significant interinstitutional synergy, the project is produced and implemented by MAXXI in collaboration with the Special Superintendence of Rome Archeology, Fine Arts and Landscape, with support from the Directorate General for Contemporary Creativity of the Ministry of Culture and the
contribution from the Bank of Italy and sponsors Laura Biagiotti, Mastercard and Cassina.
The Casa Balla project. From home to the universe and back there is also an important exhibition hosted in the spectacular MAXXI Gallery 5, open to the public from 17 June. Here tapestries, drawings, sketches, furniture, furnishings originally part of Casa Balla, will interact with eight new productions by international contemporary architects, artists and designers.
