The show

Dante in the art of the nineteenth century. An exhibition of the Uffizi in Ravenna. The project stems from a close collaboration between the Municipality of Ravenna and the Uffizi Galleries, defined with a memorandum of understanding which, as part of a multi-year collaboration, provides for prestigious loans for the Dante exhibition. The eyes and the mind. The Arts at the time of the exile and a nucleus of nineteenth-century works dedicated to the figure of Dante Alighieri, to be exhibited in Ravenna in long-term storage, as an integral part of the Casa Dante project. In addition, every year, in conjunction with the annual ceremony of the gift of oil by the city of Florence, the Uffizi will lend a Dante-themed work to the city of Ravenna.

The first work to open the exhibition dedicated to the great poet is Dante in exile, oil on canvas by Annibale Gatti on display from 16 October 2020 to 5 September 2021 in the Franciscan cloisters, adjacent to Dante's tomb.

In Gatti's work, the poet is portrayed in a moment of intimate reflection, in the company of his son, in the pine forest of Classe, cited by Dante in Purgatory and a place dear to him, also remembered here through the exhibition of a selection of historical photographs from the “Corrado Ricci” Fund of the Classense Library. Thus, once again, the deep bond between Florence and the city is renewed.
