The show

The spaces of the Museum open up to the creations of five authors from the African art scene, invited to reside in Venice in spring 2023 to work in contact with the history and collections of the Gallery.

The exhibition is the result of the project implemented by AKKA Project, Africa First and Ca' Pesaro which, in the spirit of the 18th Architecture Biennale, have given life to AFRICA 1:1 LAB, Artists Residency Program, a residency project artist who brought 5 young African artists to experience the lively Venetian artistic environment and, at the same time, to offer their personal creative contribution to the city, which is preparing for the announced Laboratory of the Future of the 18th Architecture Biennale curated by Lesley Lokko.

Thus, contemporary African art enters the spaces of the International Gallery of Modern Art with the exhibition of site-specific works created by Option Nyahunzvi (b. 1992 Zimbabwe), Pamela Enyonu (b. 1985 Uganda), Alexandre Kyungu (b. 1992 DRC), Boniface Maina (b.1987 Kenya) and Ngugi Waweru (b.1987 Kenya).
