Megaflora, a work by British artist Alice Channer, is a freestanding sculpture over three meters tall representing a blackberry stem. It was created through sand-casting aluminum from a vertically elongated 3-D scan to achieve the desired dimensions. The piece has been well received in the UK and was one of the highlights of the Summer Exhibition 2022 at the Royal Academy of Arts in London. The artwork will be displayed in the garden of the Museum of Natural History in Venice, in a context that intriguingly and engagingly introduces the secrets of nature and living beings. For the first time, the sculpture is presented in an outdoor setting and testifies, with monumental evocative power, to the fascinating ambiguity present in Channer's work, always on the border between real and artificial, between nature and its reconstruction with industrial, technological, or precious metals.
