The site-specific exhibition titled Antonio Scaccabarozzi. Diafanés is dedicated to the dialogue between the artwork and the gaze that goes beyond it. Through the concept of diaphanous, the exhibition aims to bring to light the linguistic and methodological affinities between the artistic research of one of the protagonists of Italian neo-concrete and conceptual art between the Seventies and the new Millennium, Antonio Scaccabarozzi, and the eclectic and exuberant investigation of the host, Mariano Fortuny. Composed of extremely light and translucent, colored and transparent works, the exhibition intertwines visual arts, semiotics, and phenomenology of the image, inviting the public to embark on an intense journey into the investigation of Scaccabarozzi. The exhibition focuses on the works created between the Eighties and the early Two-Thousands, when the artist approaches acetates first and then polyethylene, as preferred fields for the occurrence of the pictorial stroke and places of exploration of the relationships between architecture, observer, and artwork. Fascinated by its lightness, transparency, and versatility, Scaccabarozzi sees in polyethylene the place to address at a new level the problem of vision and its limit, the reasoning on the double, recto and verso of painting, its relationship and extension in space, until making it autonomous and independent from any other artistic technique. The cycles of Free Quantities, works in which color liberates itself on the transparent surface, of Polyethylenes, sheets of such material cut and shaped in forms of architectural ancestry, and of Banchise, superimpositions of colored plastic membranes aimed at creating new chromatic shades, ideally dialogue with the extraordinary insights of Mariano Fortuny: from pleating, capable of radically changing the idea and features of the garment, to the search for iconographic alphabets of the past, to the attention placed on the new technologies of his time. Furthermore, the two artists share the inspiration drawn from the statuary and architecture of ancient Greece and the study of colors in their calibrated potentialities and resonances with the ancient. Both seem to be attentive and highly cultured weavers of diaphanous works, placed in the hands and eyes of the public with the request to scrutinize and go beyond them, to see through their stratifications, in the name of a contemplation full of poetry.
