From 19 December to 25 February 2024
The Palazzo Grimani Museum is pleased to present the Arte Ritrovata exhibition. Return to the Lagoon. Organized by the Regional Secretariat of the Ministry of Culture for the Veneto with the Regional Directorate of Veneto Museums, in collaboration with the Superintendency of Archaeology, Fine Arts and Landscape for the Municipality of Venice and the Lagoon, the Carabinieri Command for the Protection of Cultural Heritage and the Institute Italian of Technology, the exhibition is hosted in some rooms on the main floor of the building and will be open to the public from 19 December 2023 to 25 February 2024.
Rediscovered Art. Ritorni in Laguna allows the public to encounter some events of recovery and restitution of cultural heritage, in order to underline the virtuous collaboration between the TPC Carabinieri Command and the various institutes of the Ministry of Culture which work to identify, safeguard and enhance the works removed from the Heritage, in particular in the territory of the metropolitan city of Venice.
The exhibition will illustrate various cases of crime - from forgery to illicit export, from clandestine excavations to fraud - enhancing the recovery, restitution and protection work carried out over the last few years by the TPC Carabinieri Unit of Venice. It will also be an opportunity to learn about the protection procedures that the MiC institutes implement in synergy with the Unit itself, up to the valorisation of the assets in the contexts of origin or within the state-owned museums.
The exhibition therefore displays a diverse set of objects, from archaeological finds of various eras and origins to pictorial works of the modern age, attributed to artists of primary importance such as, among others, Giandomenico Tiepolo. The original pieces are accompanied by a series of fakes, in an installation that stimulates the comparison and curiosity of visitors, inviting them to observe what is shown by identifying themselves with the professional figures who allowed their recovery, thus rediscovering, as the title of the exhibition wants to express , the link with millenary testimonies of our cultural heritage.
